Film Feast 2018

The Riverside Theatre and Restaurant are pleased to announce a new festival coming to Woodbridge in the Autumn.

Film Feast Suffolk will take place from the 5th to the 7th October 2018 as a fringe event of the highly celebrated, Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival. The festival will showcase feature films, documentaries and short films from around the world, all on the subject of food and drink. Screenings will take place at The Riverside and our partner cafés – The Fire Station, Honey & Harvey and The Tea Hut. At the end of each day a meal will be recreated from one of the feature films at our partner restaurants – The Riverside, The Galley and The Table.

The festival is honoured to have as their main sponsor, the East of England Co-Op, an organisation that was founded to provide local people with good quality, honest produce and that works in partnership with over 100 local suppliers which stocks their stores with thousands of products through their "Sourced Locally" initiative. The East of England Co-op is all about doing small things that make a big difference – and sometimes big things that make a huge difference. Our festival is all about community and supporting local businesses, so we couldn’t be more pleased to have the East of England Co-Op as our main sponsor for the festival.

We are equally honoured to have Park Circus as our Festival Partner. Park Circus are the World's leading sales agency and distribution company. They have responsibility for a catalogue of well over 25,000 films from Hollywood to British films to independents and World Cinema. Their knowledge, passion and love for cinema is evident in all that they do.

The Opening Night Gala screening will be the Stanley Tucci comedy, BIG NIGHT, set in an ailing Italian restaurant in New Jersey run by two brothers, during the 1950's. When they are tipped off that jazz supremo Louis Prima is coming to their restaurant they go all out to prepare the most lavish meal to save the restaurant! It is this very meal that three courses will be recreated from at our three partner restaurants in the evening. The next two evenings will feature the Japanese ramen noodle classic, TAMPOPO, and then on the final day we will be eating our way through BABETTE'S FEAST !

In addition to screenings, there will also be a Food-for-Thought panel assembled to discuss the important issue of food waste, following a screening of the documentary, WASTED! THE STORY OF FOOD WASTE. The panel will be made up of individuals involved in already tackling this issue in our region, what is currently being done and what the future holds.

Local award-winning baker, David Wright, from The Cake Shop will be doing a live on-stage baking/cooking demonstration plus we have some very special surprise events and guests coming too!

The festival is the idea of our Duty Manager, Neil McGlone. Neil has spent the last 10 years working for numerous film festivals around the world as a consultant, advisor and programmer. It was while working for the Bologna festival, Il Cinema Ritrovato, that he became inspired by the concept of marrying film with food to form our rather unique festival.

Our festival patrons are the multi-award winning British film and theatre director, Mike Leigh, the food writer and TV presenter Ruth Watson and local farmer and TV personality,Jimmy Doherty.

Keep a look out for some exciting pre-festival events coming your way in the Summer with some very big name guests soon to be announced! Tickets for our main festival in October will go on sale in early July.

Film Feast Suffolk is all about bringing the community together through a love of food, film and drink while at the same time celebrating the incredible array of food and drink businesses in our region. Where possible, all the meals recreated in our partner restaurants and cafes will use locally sourced ingredients.
