American Fiction
Jefferson’s debut, who has honed his craft working in the writing rooms of Succession, The Good Place and Master of None, is an hilarious satire with heart.
Monk, a critically acclaimed author and English professor, finds his writing career stalling because his work isn’t deemed ‘Black enough’. While his latest book struggles to attract publishers, he watches the incredible rise of a hot new bestseller called We’s Lives In Da Ghetto. Frustrated with successful Black writers seemingly being limited to topics of trauma and ‘raw’ stories, he writes a new novel under a pseudonym that is full of these clichés.
Jeffrey Wright is stunning as Monk, delivering a career-best, magnificently nuanced performance.
