When Ugyen is assigned to a school in the Bhutan mountains, he is indifferent. There’s no phone reception, little electricity and spartan accommodation. There are, however, children eager to learn, Lunana locals and several yaks.

Pawo Choyning Dorji’s stunning directorial debut Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom is Bhutan’s first Oscars entry. A life-affirming, humorous drama considering how a new environment affects personal transformation.

"A reminder of how cinema can connect us to what matters most in life, sharing a specific story from a part of the world most of us will never experience, but zoning in on matters of the heart that resonate in a universal way." - The Wrap
