The Color Purple

Celie Harris (Fantasia Barrino) is an African-American woman living in the South during the early 1900s. Torn apart from her sister and her children, Celie faces many hardships in life, including an abusive husband, but with support from a sultry singer named Shug Avery (Taraji P. Henson), as well as her stand-her-ground stepdaughter, Celie ultimately finds extraordinary strength in the unbreakable bonds of a new kind of sisterhood.

A story of the powerful connection between three unbreakable women, Alice Walker's classic novel The Color Purple is transformed into a profound, unforgettable big-screen musical.
